Disney

We are Disney fanatics!
After living in south Florida for nine years, we know a thing or two about the “happiest place on earth”. After our kids were born, we invested in season passes because we knew we would not live in Florida forever. Since that time, we’ve traveled to Disney World over 30 times and have done just about all there is to do.

I used to feel like I had to do everything every time we went, but I finally realized that I never felt like I was truly on vacation. Now we pick and choose our itinerary based on the time of year and current deals being offered. Whether we go for one night or five, we always have fun and make a lot of great family memories!

We’re here to help you make the most out of your visit for the least amount of money. We’ve listed our favorites, but please feel free to ask questions and we’ll be happy to share what we know!

FREE “Disney’s Armed Forces Salute Ticket”
Through Dec. 23, 2009, each active or retired member of the U.S. military may obtain one complimentary 5-day “Disney’s Armed Forces Salute” ticket with Park Hopper and Water Park Fun & More options.  This ticket is valid for five days of admission into the four Walt Disney World theme parks, plus a total of five visits to a choice of a Disney water park, DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park or certain other attractions.  During this offer period, active or retired U.S. military personnel may also purchase up to a maximum of five 5-Day “Disney’s Armed Forces Salute Companion” tickets (one theme park per day) for $99 per ticket, plus tax, for family members (including spouse) or friends. Check out www.disneyworld.com/military for more information.

FREE DINING PLAN – When you purchase a 5-night/6-day Magic Your Way hotel and theme park ticket packages, your family will enjoy the Disney Dining Plan, Free. Valid for stays most nights 10/1-11/24/2009 and 11/29-12/17/2009.
They have extended this offer, but have also varied it a bit. Depending on what type of resort you book, you will either receive the regular Dining Plan or the Quick Service Dining Plan.
This deal is valid through September 26, 2009.
This can save you HUNDREDS of dollars per day. We love this deal because it allows us to try some upscale restaurants and expience character dining that we otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. The traditional Dining Plan includes one quick-service meal, one select snack and one meal at a table-service restaurant per person, per night of your package (gratuity is not included).

You only need to buy (at least) a one day/one park pass per person. In the past, as Florida residents, it’s been cheaper for us to only buy the one day pass (almost $80 for an adult), then put that money towards a season pass (about $250). By doing that, you actually save money over buying even a three day pass!

Free Customized Maps – Create this special keepsake for free by picking your favorite places around the parks to visit, then choose to have Disney send them to you or print them at home. Click HERE to begin.

Save up to 35% on club level rooms at select Disney Deluxe Resorts  This is a unique opportunity to experience luxury affordably at Disney World. Click HERE for details.

Season Pass vs. Annual Passcheck out my post here on how to “make money” during this celebration year by buying a Season Pass and even combining some other offers!

First Haircut– Once you walk into the Magic Kingdom, you’ll find a working Barbershop just past Town Hall on Main Street. There you can get your child’s First Haircut for only $14, which includes Free Mickey Ears (which are normally $10 alone!), a certificate, and the lock of hair wrapped up in Mickey confetti. It is truly an experience to remember!

Disney Visa – The Disney Rewards Visa Card from Chase is a great way to save some extra money at Disney. Not only do they give you a $40 statement credit once you sign up, but you also get 0% APR Disney Vacation Financing for 6 months. You receive 1 Disney Dollar for every $100 you charge on the card that can be used at the parks, The Disney Store or online. Cardholders also receive an exclusive Character Meet ‘N’ Greet photo opportunity with some of the most popular Disney Characters and a complimentary 5×7 photo. They also offer 10% off your purchase of $50 or more at the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney. We became charter cardmembers when we were engaged, paid for everything for our wedding on the card, then used the Reward Dollars to pay for our honeymoon there!

Bravo Sami…Bravo Jesus…”Jesus, I know Sami makes You smile…as she does me!”

  2. We’re big Disney fanatics, too! Our favorite cheap place to eat is the Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney. You can get a great meal for around $5.

    • We love the Earl of Sandwich! Great food, reasonably priced, no tipping and no wait. They also just revamped the Wolfgang Puck Express in Downtown Disney and we had a fabulous experience there as well. We were on the Disney Dining Plan then, so we got a ton of food all for a counter service voucher. Downtown Disney has always been a great place to get the feel of Disney without spending the money that you would on/in the parks.

  3. I am a Disney fanatic myself! I try to take my children at least once a year, and I always take advantage of Disney Dining. As you’ve said, a family can save hundreds of dollars by purchasing the dining plan; and it’s even more magical if they go when dining is free! We’re taking another trip for Labor Day weekend. I booked a standard room at a value resort, and Disney gave me a free upgrade to a one bedroom at a deluxe villa! Not to mention, we’ll be dining for free! I just love that place!
